Movie trailer review: Sweeny Todd (2007)

Johnny Depp and director Tim Burton are teaming up once again for what could be their strangest film yet. Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street is about a man (Depp) who is falsely imprisoned by some rich dude, loses his wife and ultimately goes crazy. He returns as a psychotic barber who wants nothing more than to sing his way to revenge. And by sing, I actually mean sing - Sweeney Todd is, in fact, a musical.

I don't really know what to think of the movie trailer. As it is a Burton film I will certainly check it out, but it'll be interesting if he can pull Sweeney Todd off. Sure, Burton is the master of weird, but there's weird and then there's really weird, and Sweeney Todd looks to fit into the latter category.

The story isn't quite clear, and when Depp breaks into song, I'm pretty sure it will loose even some hard core Depp/Burton fans. There is so much weird stuff going on that it's really difficult to figure out what to make of it all, and I'm a pretty forgiving guy. It's certainly nice to see Depp looking more like Edward Scissorhands than he has since... Edward Scissorhands, but the jury's still out on this one.
